What You Can Do with MultiBit

The everyday workflows in MultiBit: setting up a wallet, receiving and sending Bitcoin, and following each payment until it confirms.

Create or restore a wallet

Setup takes a few minutes. The order matters: protect your recovery material before you receive any funds.

01

Choose a password

The password encrypts the wallet file stored on your computer. It is not sent anywhere and cannot be reset by anyone else.

02

Write down your recovery words

These words can rebuild the wallet on another computer. Store them offline, away from the device you use daily.

03

Confirm and synchronize

MultiBit asks you to confirm the words, then connects to the network and catches up to the current block.

Receive Bitcoin

Open the Receive view to get an address and a QR code for the sender.

Label the request

Add a note such as "invoice 214" so the payment is easy to identify later.

Share the address

Copy the address or show the QR code. Compare the first and last characters if you paste it into a message.

Watch it arrive

The payment appears as pending within moments of broadcast, then moves to confirmed once it is in a block.

Send Bitcoin

Every payment goes through a review screen before it is signed.

Enter the details

Paste the recipient address and enter an amount in BTC or your display currency.

Choose a fee

A higher fee usually gets a payment into a block sooner. The review screen shows the fee in BTC and as a share of the total.

Sign and broadcast

Enter your wallet password to sign. MultiBit then sends the transaction to its connected peers.

Follow your transaction history

Pending

Broadcast but not yet included in a block. The amount is shown but should not be treated as final.

Confirmed

Included in a block. Each new block adds one confirmation.

Labels and notes

Your notes are stored with the wallet on your computer and are never published to the network.

Search

Find a payment by label, amount, or date.

Start with a recovery plan

Follow the setup, backup, and payment guides in order.
